General Use

Why do I need this program?

SpellNDial is used for three reasons:
1) If you have a QWERTY keyboard device and see a number like 1800Dentist (18003368478) or 18002invest (18002468378), you have to figure out what those letters stand for on a normal 12 key phone. SpellNDial allows you to just spell the number and it figures out the digits for you.
2) If you don't want to hold the shift key down to access the numbers on the keypad, you may use SpellNDial to make the regular keyboard act like the shift key is pressed. Meaning, you don't have to press the shift key AND the number, just press the number.
3) If you have a 12 key smartphone and just want to tap the keys for digits instead of hold them down for a while.

How to Use

1) Run SpellNDial from the Start menu.

2) The interface is very simple. The top box is used to type numbers and the bottom box is used to type letters and numbers.

3) If you are using a QWERTY keyboard device: In the top box, instead of having to press the shift and the number key on the QWERTY keyboards, just press the key. For example, on the Moto-Q, pressing the 'w' key will insert a '1' in the top box.

When focus is in the top box, pressing 'w' will enter a 1.

When focus is in the bottom box, pressing 'w' will enter a 'w' in the bottom box and a '9' in the top box (since 'w' on a normal 12 key phone is the '9' key.)

4) Let's try to dial 1800message on the Moto-Q. So, with focus in the top box, you may press 'wx??' to get 1800 (it's hard to see in the photo above, but the '?' is where the '0' is on the keyboard.)

5) Now, you arrow down to the 2nd box and enter 'message'. You'll see 6377243 show up in the top box.

6) Press the left soft key and it will dial the phone number.

That's all there is to it. Simple program, but convenient to dial 'named' numbers as well as dial without pressing the shift key.

Menu

There are a few options in the Menu. Pressing the right softkey will bring up this menu:

Settings - Choosing this will bring up a dialog where you can map the QWERTY keys to their corresponding digits. SpellNDial attempts to auto-detect which phone you are running and sets these values for you automatically.

Occassionally, new phones come out that we have not yet detected and mapped their keys. You may set the mapping here. Or, if you want to freak people out, you can map random keys to numbers as well. The keys must map to the number keys in this order: 123456789*0# - there must be 12 keys mapped.

NOTE: If you have a phone for which SpellNDial does not map the correct keys, please email us the name of your phone and what name is displayed below the line that says "Key map for QWERTY layouts" and above the line that says "Keys:". Tips
None yet. The program is pretty self-explanatory. Type numbers in the top, type letters in the bottom. Use the top box to enter digits without pressing the shift key. Done.

1) From the main menu, press 'ti' - then select Date and Time (worldtimeserver.com).
2) Type 'pa f' - then select Paris, France from the list.
3) Done.
